  11. Welcome to The NOMSSI Viewer!
  12.  
  13. This program is a graphics file viewer, that reads and displays images
  14. stored within files with different formats. The NOMSSI Viewer works with
  15. raster images, offering support for Windows and OS/2 2.x BMP, GIF, IFF/
  16. LBM/HAM, PCX, TIFF, TGA and JFIF/JPEG files formats.

  31. SOME FEATURES
  32.  
  33. The NOMSSI Viewer includes a multi-window filemanager to locate
  34. and select files with mouse support, online help and a search
  35. function that recursively scans directories for image files. The
  36. scan parses all files and selects those who matches the supported
  37. file formats specifications, it doesn't just rely on the file
  38. extension.
  39.  
  40. The files can be viewed one at a time or selected for a slide show
  41. with full user control. One can easily generate an array of images
  42. using high quality image reduction.
  43. There are no command line switches. All parameters, e.g. screen
  44. resolution, monitor gamma, image scale etc. may be specified at run-
  45. time in a setup dialog.
  46.  
  47. Once loaded, the images can undergo simple transformations and
  48. colour editing, and then be dumped to a palette colour TIFF file.

  51. HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
  52.  
  53. The NOMSSI Viewer Release 1.1 should run under DOS 3.3 or higher on
  54. any IBM PC compatible with 640 Kb memory, 80286 processor and VGA
  55. adapter or better. The JPEG decoding routines will run only with a
  56. 80386SX processor or better.
  57.  
  58. The NOMSSI Viewer detects and uses EMS, XMS or disk space to buffer
  59. images for slideshows or transformations like rotating or scaling.
  60. The SVGA chipsets
  61.   Acumos, Ahead, ATI, AL2101, Chips&Tech, Cirrus, Cirrus54, Compaq,
  62.   Everex, Genoa, MXIC, NCR, Oak, Paradise, Poach, PRIMUS, Realtek,
  63.   S3, Trident, ET3000, ET4000, Video7
  64. and the VESA extensions should be autodetected, 256 colour modes are
  65. used.

  67. LICENSING AGREEMENT
  68.  
  69. "The NOMSSI Viewer" is SHAREWARE. It is requested that all users
  70. comply with the following licensing and registration provisions if
  71. they use The NOMSSI Viewer on a regular basis. Should you find this
  72. program useful, register it. You will get the latest release of
  73. "The NOMSSI Viewer". The user fee for this Software is DM 34,- or
  74. US$25 (see REGISTER.FRM).

  76. You may copy and distribute verbatim UNMODIFIED copies of these
  77. Software as long as it remains in its complete form with all support
  78. files, documentation files and this license agreement.
  79. You may charge a distribution fee for the physical act of
  80. transferring a copy. You may not copy, sublicense, distribute or
  81. transfer The NOMSSI Viewer except as expressly provided under this
  82. License Agreement.
  83. Any attempt otherwise to copy, sublicense, distribute or transfer
  84. The NOMSSI Viewer is void and your rights to use the program under

  86. parties who have received computer software programs from you with

  100. You need PKUNZIP ver 2.04g or higher to 'unzip' the archive.

  102. SETTING UP THE NOMSSI VIEWER
  103.  
  104. Create a target directory on your hard drive in which you want to
  105. install The NOMSSI Viewer. If you want to update from a previous
  106. version, first remove the config and help files (NV.CFG and NV.HLP)
  107. from the target directory.
  108.  
  109. Copy all the files from the archive onto the target directory on
  110. your hard drive. Start The NOMSSI Viewer typing NV.EXE at DOS prompt,
  111. there are no command line switches, your machine configuration
  112. (VGA chipset and video memory) is automatically detected.
  113.  
  114. Set the environment variable TEMP to a list of directories to look
  115. in when creating a temporary file (i.e. insert SET TEMP=C:\TEMP;C:\
  116. in your AUTOEXEC.BAT and reboot). If this variable doesn't exist,
  117. the current directory is used.
  118.  
  119. First press F9 to open the setup window. Use the TAB-key and SHIFT+
  120. TAB-key to navigate through the items and set your default options.
  121. Press F1 to get help on the selected field. The file NV.CFG is
  122. written or updated each time you leave the setup window.

  124. Please refer to the help texts for further information, they are
  125. available online trough the F1 key. If you still have trouble using
  126. The NOMSSI Viewer, feel free to send an email to the address below
  127. (including a valid return path and the program version, actually

  131. alone program Copyright (C) 1993 by Kendall Bennett. It is available
  132. via ftp from SIMTEL20 mirrors (i.e. Oak.Oakland.Edu) as

  142. PROBLEMS
  143.  
  144.  - ILBM/HAM files are said to be 64 colours images, they are
  145.    nevertheless displayed correctly.
  146.  - Scrolling doesn't work in VGA-mode 320x200 on some chipsets,
  147.    so the "mosaic" will not work well.
